Tomorrow, 18 May 2022, the DA Women’s Network’s Chairperson in the Western Cape, Wendy Kaizer-Philander MPL, and Cape Town councillor for Ward 25, Beverley Van Reenen, will attend the murder trial of Tazne van Wyk which is scheduled to resume at the Cape Town High Court.
In 2020, 8-year-old Tazne van Wyk, was raped, mutilated and murdered. This crime shook her local community to the core.
The case against alleged child killer Moehydien Pangaker has been postponed since May of last year. Pangaker is a known criminal, accused of many crimes, including Tazne Van Wyk. He was granted parole after serving half of a 10-year sentence for culpable homicide and kidnapping, but absconded a year before Van Wyk’s murder.
The justice system is failing victims like Tazne and their families, and it also fails to rehabilitate criminals in order to prevent repeating offences.
The DA calls for an urgent review of the justice system that is currently allowing criminals to be released without reform or rehabilitation.
