DHL closes in on its “1 000 000 meals by December” target

DHL is excited to announce that an impressive combined total of 831,401 meals have been prepared and delivered to communities in need nationwide by charities supported by iconic food distribution organisation FoodForward SA and Mother Soup as part of DHL’s exciting “1 000 000 meals by December” campaign.

As part of its campaign, the global leader in express logistics has offered valuable support to FoodForward SA and Mother Soup. The goal is for these two charities, with the assistance of DHL, to supply ingredients, prepare and deliver a combined total of 1 000 000 meals to various communities in need by December.

“We are enjoying every minute of getting to know and work with the representatives from FoodForward SA and Mother Soup,” says Megan Collinicos, VP Marketing, DHL Express Sub Saharan Africa. “Their passion for their work and helping those in need is clearly visible and truly inspiring. We are not surprised by the impressive total number of meals that have been prepared to date. Hard work and dedication reap rewards. We are proud to support these two initiatives and are really excited to enter the final stretch of the campaign.”

Established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FoodForward SA connects a world of excess to a world of need by recovering edible surplus food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers, for redistribution to registered beneficiary organisations that serve the poor. FoodForward SA calls this cost-effective model Foodbanking.

“We are thankful to both DHL and its employees for the selfless support that they have shown FoodForward SA. It’s been an absolute pleasure showing them the ropes as volunteers. Their eagerness to get to know more about what we do and how they can help is heart-warming and really appreciated. We are motivated more than ever to reach DHL’s goal by December.”

Housed at the Woodstock Brewery, Mother Soup was founded during lockdown and focusses on supplying nutritious hot soup to hungry communities in the Cape Town metropolitan area as part of a community-led initiative to help those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mother Soup is a partnership between Woodstock Brewery and Great Commission United, a non-profit organisation that has been in existence since 2000.

“We are proud to be part of such an exciting campaign and are thankful to DHL for the support that we have received,” says Andre Viljoen, Woodstock Brewery Owner. “This time of the year is tough enough as it is without the pressure that COVID-19 has added. With DHL’s support we’ve been able to supply many communities with nutritious meals.”
