DHL Stormers come short in Edinburgh

2 October 2026 by CapeTownNewsReader

The DHL Stormers came up short in difficult conditions, going down 17-13 in their Vodacom United Rugby Championship Round Two encounter with Edinburgh on Friday night.

Played in a howling wind which was right behind the home team in the first half, it was a tense and close match throughout, with neither side ever going beyond a converted try in the lead at any point.

The first 40 minutes saw just one penalty from Edinburgh, with the DHL Stormers defending admirably while playing into the wind.

Two penalties at the start of the second half saw the DHL Stormers go 6-3 up, but Edinburgh hit back with a try from replacement prop Paul Hill.

The visitors took the lead back in what was a seesaw battle throughout, as a powerful scrum saw No.8 and eventual man of the match Hacjivah Dayimani slam the ball down for a deserved try.

However, the lead would changes hands once again as replacement back Rory Mchaffie scored in the corner for Edinburgh and even though the DHL Stormers pressed hard in the dying stages, they were unable to come up with the killer blow as the hosts hung on for a narrow win.
