Dr Max Price welcomes parents on campus

14 February 2015 by Alan

UCT Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price welcomed parents of freshers with a few words of caution at the annual parent orientation which took place at Jameson Hall on Saturday 31 January and Monday 02 February 2015.

“I welcome you to a new phase in the lives of your sons and daughters – a wonderful phase of expansion and ideas. If they were not rebellious before, they will certainly be rebellious by the time they’ve spent a few months or years with us.”

During his address, Dr Price explained that it is the university’s task to provide a safe space for debate and controversy where students become familiar with the big challenges that face the world and understand that all knowledge is contested.

“Your sons and daughters should come away with views different from your own. Otherwise we are likely to have failed in our task.”
