Dunoon MyCiti attacks condemned

27 September 2019 by Con Tributor

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape strongly condemns attacks on MyCiti bus drivers and the destruction of MyCiti bus stations and public infrastructure in Dunoon.

While residents have a constitutional right to protest, lawlessness and the destruction of public infrastructure cannot be tolerated as this directly affects the lives of poor and working class Capetonians. We cannot let a select few disrupt crucial services delivered by the City of Cape Town to its people.

We call on the City of Cape Town’s Transport Enforcement Unit, the South African Police Service, and the Metro Police to investigate these attacks and make swift arrests. Damage to this service is damage to the lives of thousands of residents who make use of the MyCiti on a daily basis. It cannot be attacked and disrupted for political gain.

The DA in the Western Cape remains committed to providing efficient, reliable, and safe public transportation services where we govern. We will not allow vigilantism or political motives hinder our progress in this regard.
