Embassy of Israel supports Neighbour to Neighbour relief efforts in Diepsloot

9 June 2020 by Alan

MyPR: Embassy of Israel supports Neighbour to Neighbour relief efforts in Diepsloot:

Food Parcel

At the start of lockdown Afrika Tikkun, unfortunately, had to send 10,000 children home from its five centres across Gauteng and the Western Cape. Fortunately, not without a month’s supply of food, soap and sanitizers for their families.

The organisation was then selected to be one of the food parcel distributing agencies for the Solidarity Fund. And further, with the launch of the Neighbour to Neighbour Support Program, a number of privates, other non-profit organisations and community-based structures have pulled together, donating funds and items for further food parcel distribution. With this initiative, and the support of many partners, Afrika Tikkun has mobilised a community level response to the COVID-19 lockdown, scaling up supplies of food and essentials for the vulnerable; thereby also providing a vehicle for the easy and efficient support of Afrika Tikkuns community efforts.

Most recently, the Embassy of Israel kindly sponsored toward this initiative, which allowed Afrika Tikkun to increase the provision of food parcels and hygiene products to communities in Diepsloot.

This remarkable collaborative force taking place within South African society demonstrates that we are stronger today, and that the spirit of ubuntu is alive and well in us all.

Marc Lubner, CEO of Afrika Tikkun shows his gratitude saying, “We are deeply appreciative for the meaningful partnership we have enjoyed with the Embassy of Israel. We are so grateful for their assistance in helping us support vulnerable communities in a safe and responsible manner during this lockdown period”.

With lockdown extensions in play and the phased approach to opening up the country once again, there is still enormous demand to expand the feeding scheme to meet the needs of these communities. Afrika tikkun is calling on all South Africans to support the Neighbour to Neighbour Support Program (https://afrikatikkun.org/neighbour-to-neighbour-support-program-2/) so that together we can do as much as we possibly can to counteract the negative impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

For more information on Afrika Tikkun and their initiatives call 011 325 5914, email info@afrikatikkun.org or visit www.afrikatikkun.org.

Fun Western Cape Fact: The city has several notable cultural attractions. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, built on top of part of the docks of the Port of Cape Town, is the city’s most visited tourist attraction. It is also one of the city’s most popular shopping venues, with several hundred shops and the Two Oceans Aquarium.
