The festival has been in existence for 40 years, and has been successfully hosted in dozens of countries.
One of the longest and most respected cultural festivals WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) is coming to Cape Town this week.
Founded 40 years ago, WOMAD brings together artists from all over the globe for a celebration of the performing arts.
It has been successfully hosted in over 30 countries with millions of attendees over the last four decades.
For the first time in the event’s history, South Africans will get to experience the cultural and music festival with the annual WOMAD South Africa Safari to be hosted in two provinces this October.

This is also the perfect platform for local artists to showcase their talent and exchange cultural experiences with artists from other countries across the globe. The Cape Town leg of the WOMAD South Africa Safari will take place on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October 2022 with free live performances at multiple venues at the V&A Waterfront.
Performances will take place at the following venues:
- Nobel Square from 12:00 to 16:30
- V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from 13:00 to 20:00
- Quay 4 from 18:00 to 22:00
- Ferryman’s Tavern from 18:00 to 22:00
As part of the event’s other activities, skills transfer workshops will be held by the international artists at the District Six Theatre, Langa’s Bridge Music Academy, the Ocean View Music Academy and Mitchells Plain Community Centre.
