This coming Thursday 01 July 2021 marks the entries opening date for the 2022 THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 3-Day Stage Race that will take place at the Houw Hoek Hotel (Western Cape) from Saturday 19 March till Monday 21 March 2022 and the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE that will debut in KwaZulu-Natal at the iconic Normandien Farms (Newcastle) from Saturday 09 April till Sunday 10 April 2022.
In May this year event organisers, Stillwater Sports, shared the very exciting news that SA’s premier 3-Day Stage Trail Run would expand into a National Series of events with three events taking place in 2021 and five events taking place in 2022.
“We are excited to open entries for two of our five 2022 THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN events. One being our iconic 3-Day Stage Race and the other the very exciting 2-Day XPLORE that is guaranteed to take KZN by storm,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the events. “The THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN is synonymous with magnificent trails, spectacular views, mouth-watering food, a relaxed atmosphere and great vibe. The 3-Day Stage Race goes one step further, with teamwork being pivotal. The trick is to choose your partner wisely, as team members will rely on each other’s experience and expertise to complete each stage together. The 2021 event was dominated by road runners. We can’t wait to see how SA’s leading trail runners respond to the challenge in 2022.”
“Adding to the excitement, in April 2022 the THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN will make its debut in KZN in the form of the
THIRSTI AFRICANX TRAILRUN 2-Day XPLORE,” continues Meyer. “What makes this announcement even more exciting, is that the event will take place at Normandien Farms (Newcastle), the home of THIRSTI Water. As the title sponsor of the AFRICANX TRAILRUN, THIRSTI has injected a new ‘thirst for life’ into the event. The 2-Day XPLORE is the perfect introduction to the AFRICANX TRAILRUN. It’s also ideal for runners that are not yet ready for a 3-Day event. Taking the format of an ‘individual entry’ event (not teams of two), runners can look forward to exploring the most spectacular terrain that Newcastle has to offer. Each stage will feature a different route that is guaranteed to keep things exciting while leaving runners in awe. Our focus is on balancing the challenge with a fun experience.”
