Horniman Museum (and Gardens) is a rather pleasant island of calm in Forest Hill, south London. It holds an impressive array of stuffed animals and fossils and, unlike its larger museum cousins in London, it is not too daunting to view all of what is on display in the main gallery. Here is a display dedicated to the evolution of the elephant.
