The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape welcomes the 2019/20 Festive Season Safety Plan launched on Thursday, 5 December 2019 at the Huguenot Tunnel on the N1. The safety plan’s priority aims to continue to find ways to encourage safer behaviour so that we can reduce death and injury on our roads especially during the festive season.
Daylin Mitchell, MPP said “As we welcome the seasonal influx of travellers into our province, I welcome the DA-led Western Cape’s interventions to keep road users and tourists alike safe on our roads. Road users are reminded to obey the rules of the road, and practice caution and vigilance as traffic volumes increase over the festive season.”
MPP Mitchell adds: “Speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and reckless driving are illegal and punishable by law. Road users must not think that they will be able to flout the law in our province when visiting, and are encouraged to drive safely.”
The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape urges traffic law enforcement officers to be on high alert, and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to carrying out traffic laws during the festive season. We remain committed to protecting our road users and pedestrians, and curb the number of road fatalities in our province.
