Firearms, Ammunition and Drugs Removed From Cape Town’s Streets

The endeavours of the respective SAPS units to bring stability to crime ridden areas have proved fruitful as indicated by the results achieved during this week’s operations.

On Friday, 14 August 2026, members attached to Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Beacon August Valley area, to combat gang violence, followed up on information which led them to a premises in Swemmer Street, Beacon Valley, where a 7,65 pistol with five rounds of ammunition was found abandoned and confiscated. A case docket was opened at Mitchells Plain SAPS for further investigation.

During a search by the same members, at a premises in Tennis Crescent, Beacon Valley a 47-year-old male was found in possession of 12 sachets containing tik. The suspect was arrested for the possession of drugs and detained at Mitchells Plain SAPS.

In an unrelated matter, on Thursday 13 August 2026, an intelligence driven operation conducted by members of Operation Lockdown III at a premises in Bicycle Crescent, Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain led to the arrest of a 35-year-old female for dealing in drugs. The members followed up on information received and upon arrival at the identified address, they conducted a search of the premises which led to the discovery of 17 tik sachets, 50 heroin straws, 15 mandrax tablets and four halves mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R2603.00 and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime. She was subsequently arrested and detained at Mitchells Plain SAPS.

The same day members followed up information about a suspect affiliated to a local gang in possession of a firearm and ammunition in Hengelaar Street, Lentegeur. They operationalised the information and on arrival at the mentioned address, a search ensued which resulted in the discovery of a 9mm pistol and one blank round. A 32-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He could not produce a firearm licence or permit for the firearm and was subsequently arrested.

The members also received information which was operationalised about firearms and drugs being stored at a premises in Korfbal Street Lentegeur . Upon arrival at the address they searched the suspect and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession. A 26-year-old male was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of any other crimes.

The suspects are all expected to make their respective court appearances in Mitchells Plain Magistrates court on Monday, 17 August 2026 for their respective charges.
