Firearms and Ammunition Removed From the Streets

WESTERN CAPE – The commitment of police members to create a safer environment for the communities, resulted in the arrest of several suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in separate incidents.

On Monday, 21 September 2026 at about 09:00, members were conducting crime prevention duties when they observed an unknown male brandishing a firearm. Members approached and arrested the 20-year-old suspect for the illegal possession of a zip gun and one round of ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court today, Wednesday, 2026-09-23 for the mentioned charge.

On Tuesday, 22 September 2026 members attached to Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in Elsies River area, when they received information and proceeded to the identified address, in Dale Road, Elsies River. A search of the premises was conducted and a 39-year-old suspect was found to be in possession of a 9mm Pistol without a serial number and 17 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. He is due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once charged.

In an unrelated matter, members attached to Operation Prosper were patrolling Philippi East area and conducted stop and search operations in Myezo Street, Luzuko, Phillipi East. They saw a suspicious looking male whom they stopped and searched and found him to be in possession of a 9mm PAK pistol and one 9mm round of ammunition. The members arrested a 20-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges soon.
