The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate completed the emergency repairs to its 750mm diameter water supply main affecting the Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte areas on Sunday, 5 June 2022. During the repairs, the water supply was shut down affecting a number of areas, some experiencing low water pressure and others no water. A clamp was made and installed over the hole in the pipeline and the supply was restored. This morning, Tuesday, 7 June 2022, the pipeline to the affected areas was shut down to replace the newly installed clamp with a broader one.
‘The broader clamp will eliminate the possibility of leaks occurring at the location of the hole in the pipe. Fortunately this time around, most areas in Kraaifontein and Joostenbergvlakte will have water and only a few areas will experience lower than usual water pressure as a result of the rerouted supply. We will, however, have water tankers on standby for areas where water is required for domestic use as a precautionary measure. The situation has changed for the better with the additional pumped water supply, which has been added to the rerouted water supply. Most of the affected areas should now have water.
‘The City sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused and assures residents the team is doing their level-best to complete the repairs in the shortest possible timeframe. We sincerely thank the residents in the affected areas for their patience during this period of inconvenience,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.
In areas where there is no water, consumers are kindly requested to ensure that their taps are closed during this period to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.
Water tankers will be on standby and sent where required.
The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation as it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to the benefit of its consumers.
