The City is hosting Energy Efficiency Schools Programme (EESP) Play and Workshop events with schools across the metro to empower learners to make smart energy decisions. The workshops will take place at high schools across the city as part of the Cape Town Future Energy Festival and kicked off on Monday, 11 May 2026 at Rhodes High School in Mowbray. Schools are encouraged to contact us if they are interested in participating. The competition and prize giving ceremony will take place on Friday, 19 June 2026.
‘Six slots are available for schools to participate and they are encouraged to apply. Teaching our youth about energy efficiency and renewable energy is crucial. They have significant power to begin more sustainable practices within their schools, homes and communities. They are able to influence those around them. By visiting various schools and communities throughout Cape Town, we can ensure all residents are included in the solutions and play a role in our collective energy future,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
The events are part of the Cape Town Future Energy Festival, a city-wide movement to equip residents with the information to make better energy choices. By providing residents with knowledge, practical tools and inspiring experiences, the festival is helping households while creating awareness about the changing energy landscape and climate impacts.
