Alan Meiklejohn, NSRI Gordons Bay station commander, said: On Saturday, 06 June, at 08h25, NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated following reports from a fisherman of a body in the ocean that he had happened upon while fishing off-shore of False Bay.
The SA Police Services were alerted and our sea rescue craft Jack & Irene was launched.
On arrival in the vicinity of the location provided by the fisherman and following a brief search we rendezvoused with the fisherman, 18 nautical miles off-shore, beyond False Bay, and the body of a female was located and recovered onto our sea rescue craft.
The body of the female was brought to our sea rescue station and the body has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.
On Tuesday, 02 June, NSRI Gordons Bay had assisted the SA Police Services in a search operation for a missing female off-shore of Lookout Point, Gordons Bay.
On Tuesday NSRI Gordons Bay had launched sea rescue craft to assist Police in a water search in the vicinity and beyond at sea where a vehicle belonging to local missing female had been found at a parking area on the shoreline and a shoreline search had revealed no sign of the missing female.
The SA Police Services, GB Med Security, WC Government Health EMS, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services and their Fire Dive Unit, a Police Dive Unit and Law Enforcement were on that scene on Tuesday and Police had opened an investigation after no sign of the female could be found.
NSRI cannot confirm if these 2 cases are related.
