Jacques Vivier, NSRI Gordons Bay duty coxswain, said: At 20h44, Friday, 27 March, NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from 2 local jet-skiers reporting to be in the surf zone at Koegel Bay with motor mechanical failure to one jet-ski.
They had reported that they were trying to recover the casualty jet-ski themselves after they had been test driving new jet-ski’s but while trying to recover the casualty jet-ski their second jet-ski had also experienced problems.
NSRI rescue swimmers and our NSRI rescue vehicle was dispatched and on arrival on the scene we found them safe at the beach with the 2 jet-ski’s in shallow surf on the shoreline.
NSRI rescue crew stood by at our NSRI Gordons Bay station 9 rescue base prepared to launch rescue craft if required.
On arrival on the scene NSRI assisted the 2 adult men to recover their jet-ski’s onto their trailers and they towed one jet-ski back to Gordons Bay Harbour while our NSRI rescue vehicle towed the second jet-ski to Gordons Bay Harbour.
Once safely back at the harbour they required no further assistance.
The operation was completed at 23h49.
