Quentin Botha, NSRI Table Bay station commander, said: At 19h26, Thursday, 12 March, NSRI Table Bay were alerted by a local boater reporting that he was on his own boat alongside a local 26 foot motor boat, that had sustained motor mechanical failure, with 10 crew onboard, offshore of Granger Bay.
The local boater was establishing a towline to the casualty boat and he requested assistance to get them into Granger Bay at The Water Club.
NSRI Table Bay duty crew were activated and responded to the NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base where the NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Day was launched while our NSRI rescue vehicle responded to The Water Club to assist from quay side.
On NSRI’s arrival on the scene the local boater had reached The Water Club with the casualty boat under tow. We took over the tow with our NSRI rescue craft and successfully moored the casualty boat at her moorings at The Water Club, assisted by NSRI shore crew.
Once the casualty boat was safely moored no further assistance was required.
NSRI commend the local boater for swiftly raising the alarm and for his assistance safely towing the casualty boat towards The Water Club.
