Handpicked Wines and Superb Fare

28 June 2012 by CapeTownNewsReader

As part of the super luxury hotel’s effort to bring ‘the winelands and its sumptuous food fare into the heart of the city’ through a monthly showcase titled ‘Expressions’, the Taj Cape Town is inviting local food and wine lovers of all ages to enjoy a unique experience this Thursday evening, June 28th at 6pm. Hand-picked wines from the Stellenbosch Berg, Banghoek and Helderberg wards will be served alongside delicious fare prepared by resident chef, Janice Anderson, of Stellenbosch’s alfresco dining favourite – 96 Winery Road – at the Taj’s Mint Restaurant.

There will be a tasting of fine varietals in the sumptuous lounge of the Florentine Palazzo Pitti-inspired 1900 building which previously housed the Reserve Bank of South Africa and Board of Executors (BOE). Food and wine aficionados, city bowl hipsters or once-in-a-while dining out couples, will have the opportunity to chat and mingle with assistant winemakers or estate representatives from some of Stellenbosch’s top wineries, including Annandale, Bartinney Private Cellars, Bilton, Eikendal, Ernie Els, Idiom, Ken Forrester, Kleine Zalze, Kleinood, Rainbows End, Waterkloof, Waterford Estate and Yonder Hill

A four-course dinner, including paired wines, will be served at 7pm. The cost is R350 per person, covering wines, mineral water and parking at the adjacent Mandela Rhodes building. The wines featured will also be available for purchase at cellar door prices on the evening of the event.

For those unable to attend the festivities of this Thursday evening, Janice’s custom menu will be offered at Mint Restaurant during July only, as part of the Taj Cape Town’s monthly Expressions’ showcase. Excluding wines, a two-course meal will be available at R175 per person or R210 for three courses.

Bookings are essential. Please call +2721 819 2000 or restaurants.capetown@tajhotels.com.
