If you’ve ever wished you could participate in local government planning, now’s your chance. The City’s 5 Year Plan for the period 2012 to 2017 is in its second week of being open for public input.The plan is the City’s road map for the next five years and determines where the municipality is going to spend its money. It guides the City in meeting residents’ needs and priorities and needs public agreement before it can be implemented. As such, public participation is vital.
The total input covering all of Cape Town’s suburbs, wards and subcouncils will make this the City’s largest public participation process in its history.
The Executive Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille and the Deputy Executive Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson, have embarked on a series of public meetings to gather input and explain the City’s priorities and plans to residents. There will also be public meetings in the subcouncils, 920 000 inserts in community papers, kiosks in shopping malls, and Twitter and Facebook updates. Residents can obtain copies of the feedback form online, in CITYNEWS print (delivered to their homes) and at libraries and clinics.
