The City of Cape Town is appealing to residents to participate in the review of its 2010/2011 Integrated Development Plan (IDP), together with the draft 2010/2011 Budget, including the proposed amendments to the revenue and Budget-related policies.
[ad#Google Adsense 125×125 Blog Post]Both documents guide the City on how it addresses Cape Town’s strategic and developmental issues, and in accordance with its policy of participative, democratic and co-operative governance, residents have the right to have a say in how it is run and how it develops.
The IDP is a developmental plan for Cape Town, and determines the City’s strategic and budget priorities. It therefore has far-reaching effects on the lives, opportunities and health of the 3.3 million people here. During previous IDP public participation rounds, residents prioritised jobs, housing, and safety and security as factors around which the City should focus its activities.
The IDP process forms part of the City of Cape Town’s vision – for a prosperous city in which City government creates an enabling environment for shared growth and economic development, a City that is known for its effective and equitable service, and a City that distinguishes itself as a well-governed and efficiently-run administration.
Strategic focus areas in the IDP process include shared economic growth and development; sustainable urban infrastructure and services; energy efficiency for a sustainable future; public transport systems; integrated human settlements; safety and security; health, social and community development; and good governance and regulatory reform.
The current annual review period is now open, and the City is appealing to the public to become involved. Residents can obtain the documents online or at all municipal administrative buildings, subcouncil offices and libraries between 08:30 and 16:30. Feedback boxes and forms will also be available for comments.

The deadline for comments is 16:30 on Wednesday 5 May. Any person wishing to make a verbal presentation may book a time slot at their local subcouncil office(s) at least two days before the subcouncil meeting. Any person who is unable to write may come to the subcouncil offices during office hours and a member of staff will assist him/her in transcribing his/her comments.
