The Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP) is calling on the people of Parow and Bellville to donate their unused clothes and shoes for the neighbourhood’s first ever free pop-up Street Store for the homeless, on Thursday, 27 October 2022.
Following its launch in January 2014 in Cape Town, The Street Store has expanded globally prompting communities across the world to help clothe and support those in their community that need a hand.
What started off as a local activation in Cape Town has taken place over 950 times globally and helped clothe over 500 000 people to date around the world, supported by the community for the community, and is now a valued contribution to many in need.
As a non-profit organisation, GTP, in partnership VRCID, MES, Sheltersuit SA Foundation, The Rea Thusana Foundation and Doorway to Dignity aims to replicate the same triumphs of their super successful concept pop-up store in Bellville.
Launched in 2017, the store is regularly frequented by the area’s homeless community who relish the opportunity of being able to choose their own clothes and dress with dignity. At our last street store, the people of Bellville collected more than 300 pairs of shoes and just over 1, 920 kg of clothing, and it is hoped the folks in Parow will rally together to achieve the same, if not more.
Donate clothes at these collection points
The Parow Pop-up Street Store can be found at the MES Centre of Hope Parking Area on Alexandra Street in Parow and will be open from 10am to 2pm to the homeless. Residents are encouraged to donate clothes and shoes that are clean and in good condition.

GTP CEO, Warren Hewitt says: “We are so excited to bring about another Street Store to the Western Cape, this time to the community of Parow. It is essential that the poorest and most vulnerable amongst us are looked after, and we know that people always want to help but are often unsure of how to do so. The Street Store not only provides convenience but also safety and assists with dignity which is so very crucial”.
As well as getting some new clothes and shoes, the Street Store will give Parow’s homeless community the chance to get invaluable assistance from social workers and benefit from the services offered by the organisations partnering with the GTP.
