The motivation for this article – Setting The Record Straight And Why You Haven’t Seen Anymore Egg Memes – came initially from an environmental newsletter that landed on my inbox and the headline prompted a strong reaction in me, so strong in fact that I felt almost compelled to go and hug a tree. It was raining and cold so thankfully that feeling faded…
The clickbait headline for the article was about how callous Trump was in ordering the decimation of huge swathes of domestic forest land.
A Google search revealed more of the same emotive words and headlines that would lead any sane person to believe that the ‘Orange Menace’ was on an environmental rampage that would leave nothing behind except waste land and poverty.
Along my journey I discovered that the price of eggs HAS come down and that Americans pay way less than South Africans for gas (fuel for their motor cars).
Also my investigation opened up a small sliver of sympathy for the man who can do no right according to his detractors.
At the end of the day I was reminded of the following tenent; “I may disagree with what you think or say but I will defend your right to say it!” along with the realisation that it takes two to believe it.
