Killarney Community Recycling Centre Operations Update

8 June 2026 by Con Tributor

The Killarney Community Recycling Centre (CRC) is currently allowing residents and businesses to each drop off one load of soft garden greens while work to rehabilitate the chipping area surface continues. The public is reminded that services for other waste types at the facility remain available.

Residents and small businesses can currently drop off one load of soft garden greens (leaves and grass cuttings only) per day at Killarney Community Recycling Centre, while the City’s Urban Waste Management Directorate is making every effort to complete the proactive work to rehabilitate the Killarney Community Recycling Centre. The maintenance and upgrades to the facility are vital to better manage stormwater on site, enhance operational safety and help ensure the service is sustainable.

The work, which is being done over two phases, is progressing well. The first phase is nearing completion, while the second phase is already under way with the City addressing any construction-related delays as a priority.

Currently, it is anticipated that the garden greens section of the facility will reopen and be fully operational on 15 July 2026.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates residents’ patience and understanding until such time as the maintenance requirements are completed and the garden greens service is fully restored.

Reminder

Drop-off services for other waste types at Killarney CRC are available to the public.
Don’t leave any waste outside the facility. Illegal dumping creates health and environmental risks and diverts resources away from essential service delivery.

Visitors can use the closest alternative drop-off facilities if need be:

  • Tygerdal
  • Welgelegen
  • Vissershok (does not accept e-waste)
