The Killarney Race Track this coming Sunday, 31 July 2011, will showcase quarter mile professionals to see who will be the quickest over the 400 meter strip. If the recent practice is anything to go by spectators should be treated to some awesome displays of horsepower in both the car and bike categories with many 10 second runs and even some low nice second times for the bikers.
Clear skiers are predicted, great news for those wanting to improve their personal best times. The Pro-Fit exhaust VW monster Golf piloted by Bradley will be hoping to improve his 11.8 previous best while the Harker brothers are planning to return with an improved power plant and higher boost pressure in forced induction systems. Rumor has it that the awesome white RWD Toyota driven by Faeek has also increased the size of the Turbocharger and is switching over to methanol, this all should result in much quicker times over the drag strip.
Woman power will be represented by our very own Marlize Hoon in her always impressive, very neat turbo charged VW Golf Mk2. (that reminds us, don’t forget Woman’s Day at Killarney on 9th August).
Drivers sidelined due to mechanical hassles include the Project 8V Golf of Riaan de Wet, this due to the valves coming off second best in a dispute with other engine components. Tolla Daniels will also return after the Ramadan month, he is doing low 10 second runs and hope to break into the magic 9 second league. Willie Nel continues to work late into the evening this week doing final preparations to his vehicle for Sunday.
Some drifters have also made queries and could be ripping up the oval from late morning till about 2pm, we will see what happens here. Gates open at 8am and tickets are R30pp while under 12’s are free.
Race entries will be at the main gate caravan on Sunday morning from 8am till 10am. As the Drag Racing is a competitive event drivers are required to hold current MSA competition licenses. The license fee is R350 and will be available at entries on the morning of the event.
Various foods and refreshments are available at the facility or spectators are welcome to bring their own, skottel braais are welcome or use one of the various braai stands available on site.
