A euphoric evening celebrating the titanic history of French Organ music, with curated works by Widor, Couperin, Fauré, Langlais and Bédard (amongst others). Primarily, although not exclusively, concerned with the late Romantic French tradition, the recital is a soundscape of selections meant to enthrall and stimulate, forcing the listener to confront the magnitude of the instrument and leave them in awe at its wonder.
Some highlights of the evening include: Widor’s Toccata in F Major (from his Cinquième Symphonie), Pie Jesu by Gabriel Fauré (from his Requiem, Op. 46) and, being an organ recital, Bach gets his mandatory mention with a heart-wrenching Fugue in D Major (BWV580).
Two short improvisations conclude the evening, as a showcase of the performer’s virtuosity and serve as a palate cleanser to the richness of the music that came before. Moreover, each improvisation comes with a on-the-night surprise feature…
