The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be carrying out emergency repairs to a major water supply pipeline to the South Peninsula area this weekend. The work will commence at 13:00 on Saturday 8 October 2011 and is expected to be completed by 13:00 on Sunday 9 October 2011.
The repairs involve shutting down the water supply line and replacing a defective critical control valve. Water will be supplied to the area via an alternate source for the duration of the repairs. This will result in the entire South Peninsula area experiencing low water pressure. This includes suburbs such as Wynberg, Hout Bay, Constantia, Bergvliet, Diep River, Retreat, Kirstenhof, Lakeside and Fish Hoek, extending to the rest of the South Peninsula.
Previous experience and engagement with residents has indicated that the allotted timeslot is the most suitable for these repairs to be done since it is the period when the lowest water consumption occurs. The City has therefore planned to conduct this work when the inconvenience to consumers would be lowest.
The City would like residents in the South to be mindful of this operation and urges them to reduce their water consumption and use considerably less water during this period to ensure that the water supply to the entire area is sustained throughout the period of the repairs.
The City will, however, endeavour to restore the water pressure as soon as possible to minimise the impact on consumers in the area.
The City wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that the water supply infrastructure is maintained in order to provide good quality drinking water to the City’s consumers at all times.
