The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will invest more than R12 million in the rehabilitation of 5,3km of sewer pipes in Milnerton. Construction is scheduled to start on 27 June 2026 and continue until March 2027.
The project forms part of the City’s ongoing investment in critical sanitation infrastructure and aims to improve the reliability of the sewer network while reducing the risk of future pipe failures.
Through a City-appointed contractor, JK Construction, about 5,3 km of ageing sewer pipelines, ranging from 150mm to 300mm in diameter, will be rehabilitated across several roads in Milnerton, including Oleander, Nerina, Mimosa, Lobelia, Keurboom, Graaff, Langerman Avenue, Ixia, Heather, Gousblom, Freesia, Erica Way, Ascot, Disa, Crasula, Gardenia Crescent and Bergonia Close.
The work will involve a combination of trenchless pipe replacement techniques and open-trench excavations, depending on site conditions.
Residents may experience temporary traffic disruptions, including stop-and-go traffic control, lane restrictions and short-term road closures. Every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience and maintain access to properties where possible. Residents and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution near construction areas and to adhere to all temporary traffic signage and safety instructions.
