At 12h35 NSRI were alerted that Police Divers were responding to the Port of Table Bay breakwater following reports that a man had been swept off the breakwater by waves and disappeared.
NSRI Table Bay were placed on alert.
An extensive scuba-dive search by Police Divers has revealed no sign of an unidentified adult male who is suspected to have drowned.
Eye-witnesses reported seeing the man being swept off the breakwater, at approximately 11h45, and on their arrival at the site no sign of the man could be found and only a white bag, believed to have belonged to the missing man, was seen floating in the water leading eye-witnesses to suspect that the man had drowned.
Initially Waterfront Security and local police were dispatched to investigate and on interviewing eye-witnesses it became evident that a man may have been swept into the sea and disappeared.
A search by Police and Police Divers will continue and an investigation by police has been opened.
