Hein Köhne, NSRI Melkbosstrand deputy station commander, said: At 17h31, Friday, 20 November, NSRI Melkbosstrand duty crew were activated following a request for urgent assistance from a family reporting their son, age 32, being swept out to sea at Koeberg Beach.
A sea rescue craft was prepared to be launched at Melkbosstrand NSRI and rescue swimmers responded directly to the scene.
On rescue swimmers arriving on the scene they noticed the man floating in the surf and they swam out approximately 70 meters into the surf and secured the man and swam him back to shore safely where he was treated for hypothermia before being transported to hospital as a precaution by his family.
It appears that he had been wading in shallow surf with his sister before being caught in a rip current. He stayed afloat until rescue swimmers reached him.
HOUT BAY:

At 08h52, Sunday, 22 November, NSRI Hout Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a man on a sea-kayak in difficulty off-shore of The sentinel in Hout Bay.
The sea rescue craft Albie Matthews was launched and an ER24 ambulance was dispatched.
On our sea rescue craft arriving at the casualty, a local 19 year old male, he was rescued onto the sea rescue craft and his sea-kayak was recovered.
We brought him to our sea rescue station where he was treated for hypothermia and for shock and he was taken into the care of ER24 paramedics and transported to hospital by ER24 ambulance in a stable condition.
It appears that while out paddling with a friend he became hypothermic and his friend raised the alarm.
His friend paddled to shore at Hout Bay harbour without incident.
