Massive Win for Cobras

7 October 2026 by Con Tributor

The YesPlay Cobras secured a convincing nine-wicket victory over WSB Eastern Storm in the YesPlay Pro20 Cup at Newlands on Tuesday.

The Cobras won the toss and elected to bowl first.

After restricting Eastern Storm to 130/7, Cobras made light work of the chase, reaching 134/1 in just 15.5 overs to claim their third victory of the 2026/27 Pro20 campaign.

George Linde struck twice in the Powerplay, removing Ronan Hermann for two and Kabelo Sekhukhune for 15 to leave the visitors 18/2.

Christopher Britz (38) and Dewan Marais (40) attempted to rebuild the innings, but the Cobras kept the scoring in check throughout.

Linde finished with excellent figures of 2/15 from his four overs, while Oliver Whitehead also claimed two wickets for 18 runs.

Tshepo Moreki and Asakhe Tsaka chipped in with a wicket apiece as Eastern Storm were restricted to 130/7.

The Cobras’ chase was anchored by an impressive unbeaten 60 from Jiveshan Pillay, who struck three fours and three sixes from 40 deliveries.

Kashief Joseph provided strong support with 31 before Joshua van Heerden joined Pillay and accelerated the chase with an unbeaten 40 from 26 balls.

The pair combined to see the Cobras home with 25 balls to spare, securing a comprehensive victory and another valuable result in Pool A.

Meanwhile, Garden Route Badgers held their nerve to defeat Wenbro Impalas by five wickets on Monday, reaching their target with three balls to spare.

Impalas were in early trouble at 47/3 before Ernest Kemm steadied the innings with 39 off 36 balls.

Abdullah Bayoumy then anchored the lower order with an unbeaten 35 off 36, while Thomas Mayes added a late 24 off 18 to lift Impalas to 128/6.

Former SA U19 players Liam Alder and Enathi Kitshini were the standout performers with the ball for Badgers, claiming two wickets each, while Pheko Moletsane added 1/16 from his four overs.

The Badgers’ reply was led by Janneman Malan, who struck 46 off 38 balls, before Moletsane finished the job with an unbeaten 27.

Alder added a brisk five off two deliveries to seal the five-wicket victory at 131/5 in 19.3 overs.
