On a crisp spring evening in Frankfurt, as the lights of the city begin to shimmer against the River Main, something extraordinary is about to unfold inside the majestic halls of the Alte Oper.
For years, the MIAGI Orchestra has carried a powerful sound across continents — from South Africa to Europe — filling grand concert halls with music that pulses with hope, resilience, and unity. Audiences have risen to their feet in the Berliner Philharmonie, listened in awe at Young Euro Classic in Berlin’s Konzerthaus, and been moved in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Everywhere they go, the halls are filled to capacity. Everywhere they go, something transformative happens.
And now, on 27 April 2026 at 20h00, the journey leads to a new milestone.
At the brand-new youth orchestra festival, Podium Zukunft, hosted at the historic Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the MIAGI Orchestra will take center stage once more. Under the baton of conductor David Panzl, the orchestra will perform beneath the evocative motto: “Searching for the African Footprint.”
But this is more than a concert.
It is a story woven over 25 years a story of young musicians from diverse backgrounds finding not only artistic excellence, but dignity, opportunity, and voice through music. MIAGI has never been just an orchestra. It is a movement rooted in democracy, cultural rights, and freedom of expression. Its commitment has echoed beyond concert halls, resonating at the Almedalen Democratic Forum in Sweden and even within the European Parliament.
One unforgettable chapter saw young cellist and conductor Tsepo Pooe representing MIAGI during Nobel Week, standing alongside Nobel Laureates. There, the documentary “An Unfinished Symphony” reflecting the orchestra’s connection to Nelson Mandela’s legacy was screened, a testament to music’s power to carry history forward. Produced by The Nobel Prize and premiered by National Geographic, the film captured what MIAGI truly represents: a bridge between past and future, struggle and celebration, Africa and the world.
Behind every performance lies something equally powerful. Hundreds of young musicians have, through MIAGI, received not only world-class training and international exposure, but financial stipends that support their artistic development and well-being. The orchestra invests in their futures — not just as performers, but as leaders, cultural ambassadors, and changemakers.
