Mnandi Beach Drowning

6 January 2009 by CapeTownNewsReader

The search for missing Kevin Solomons, 22, from Elsies River, continued from first light on yesterday, the 5th of January, at 9 Miles Beach near Strandfontein where the man went missing yesterday while swimming.

NSRI Strandfontein volunteers, Police and a Police Dive unit, Law Enforcement officers and Metro Police continued to search at sea and along the shoreline.

The family of the missing man joined rescuers on the scene searching today.

At 13h36 on the 5th of January, NSRI Strandfontein responded to Mnandi Beach to join LSA Lifeguards, Police and Law Enforcement officers who had initiated a search for a 16 year old male reported to have disappeared in the surf while swimming.

The Metro Red Cross AMS helicopter, Metro Ambulance and Rescue Services, Metro Police and the Police Dive Unit joined in the search.

A Lifeguard Jet-Ski, NSRI Discovery Rescue Runner, NSRI Rescue Craft and 3 LSA Surf Rescue Malibu boards and a Police Dive Unit rubber-duck were launched at the scene.

Despite an extensive sea, air and shore search no sign of the missing teenager, who is presumed to have drowned, has been found.

During the search operation a further two teenage females got into difficulty while swimming in the surf at Mnandi Beach and were brought ashore by rescuers but required no medical attention.
