More Spray Can Work Against Cockroach Bait

2 November 2026 by CapeTownNewsReader

Gqeberha – Reaching for a spray after cockroach bait has been placed can work against the treatment the household is trying to support. True Clean is advising residents to check their treatment instructions before adding another product around baited areas.

The issue is compatibility. Certain repellent products can contaminate bait or make its placement unattractive to cockroaches. That can interfere with feeding, even when the resident’s intention is simply to deal with insects still being seen.

University of Florida guidance on German cockroach management explains how repellent treatment in an area intended for bait can make that bait ineffective. The principle is a reason to coordinate products, rather than an instruction for householders to combine treatments themselves.

At True Clean, Diederik Visser describes an inspection-led approach to kitchen infestations. The work can include checking behind appliances and beneath fitted cupboards, flushing accessible hiding places, vacuuming emerging cockroaches and placing suitable bait. Any flushing or spray treatment needs to fit the bait and the product instructions.

The presence of different methods in a professional treatment does not mean that any household spray can be added afterwards. The products used, their placement and the instructions for the job determine what is appropriate.

Residents should also avoid treating uneaten bait as proof that cockroaches have developed insecticide resistance. Visser’s service guidance distinguishes a bait not being accepted from a confirmed resistance finding. Continued activity needs reporting so that the operator can assess what is happening.

True Clean’s follow-up checks consider remaining activity, whether bait has been eaten and where further attention is needed. Customers should describe the locations and timing of sightings, and mention any extra products they have applied since the visit.

Cleaning instructions need the same coordination. What should be left undisturbed, what needs cleaning and when treated areas can be used again depend on the work and the products involved. Customers should follow the instructions given for their property and ask if anything is unclear.

The practical message is to contact the operator before adding another pesticide. More product does not automatically mean better control.

The World’s First Antarctic Expedition Departure Hubs (1800s–Present): Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Cape Town served as a primary maritime launching pad for historic polar expeditions to Antarctica. News of heroic polar voyages—including those led by Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton—frequently cleared through Cape Town’s harbor, establishing the city in international press archives as a key gateway to the frozen south.
