MP Fencing Closed at the Beginning of 2026 After 43 Years – To Accommodate Impi Wire Growth and Focus on Supply of Quality Products to Combat Substandard Products Flooding the Local Market Not Designed for Coastal Regions.

3 November 2026 by CapeTownNewsReader

George, Western Cape: Impi Wire, the fencing, building, agricultural and packaging materials supplier based in George, has closed the contracting and installation division of MP Fencing, its 43-year-old sister business, so it no longer competes with the same contractors it supplies. Customers across the Garden Route and Klein Karoo will be served exclusively through Impi Wire, which supplies quality fencing of a standard required to withstand coastal conditions. They also supply building materials, agricultural products and packaging equipment from its George premises.

“Now that we have closed MP Fencing  every contractor buying from us will know we’re not also bidding against them. Impi Wire will be the sole supplier of quality fencing, building, agricultural and packaging materials for the Garden Route and Klein Karoo, full stop.”

Impi Wire was opened in George in 1993 by Paul Davison. The business incorporated Daryl Austin in 2014 to expand its product range in building materials and hardware, and has been the official Betafence distributor for the Southern Cape since 2007, with all Betafence products carrying a 15-year guarantee. Paul Davison said that history matters as new suppliers enter the market to chase the building boom: “A lot of new fencing and building materials suppliers have popped up chasing this growth, and some haven’t been around long enough to know what actually holds up out here — the wind, the damp, the ground movement. We’ve been sourcing and testing fencing and building materials for the Garden Route for over 40 years. That’s not something you can build overnight, and it’s worth asking any supplier how long they’ve actually been doing this before you buy from them.”

The change comes as demand for fencing and building materials in the Garden Route continues to grow. George Municipality processed R15.97 billion worth of building plans between 2020 and 2024, and Stats SA’s most recent building statistics show the Western Cape was one of the few provinces where building activity grew in 2025, up 6.8% year-on-year even as the national figure declined. The municipality’s own population count shows George growing 41.6% since 2016.

Impi Wire’s product range includes fencing (electric fencing, welded mesh, gabions, farm gates), building materials (reinforcing, brick force, roofing), agricultural supplies and packaging equipment, with delivery available across the Garden Route and Klein Karoo.
