WESTERN CAPE – The South African Police Service is appealing to any additional victims and persons with information regarding a series of rape and robbery cases in the Muizenberg area to come forward.
A 35-year-old man is currently facing charges relating to seven rape and robbery cases reported in Muizenberg between 2023 and 2026. The accused has been linked to the cases through DNA analysis, photo identification and similarities in his modus operandi.
According to the investigation, the accused allegedly used social media and WhatsApp groups to lure women under the pretext of meeting for work or a relationship. The women were allegedly encouraged to meet him in the Capricorn/Muizenberg area, where he would lead them across an open field before allegedly using violence against them and committing rape and robbery.
The suspect was arrested on 15 February 2026 and remains in custody after bail was denied. He is due to appear in court again on 20 August 2026.
SAPS believes there may be other victims who have not yet reported incidents. Anyone who may have been victimised by the accused, or who has information that could assist the investigation, is urged to come forward.
The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Jaques Barnard, can be contacted on 065 026 1130.
SAPS assures victims that their information will be treated sensitively and confidentially.
