Motorists travelling along Hans Strijdom Avenue in the Cape Town CBD are asked to note that the flow of traffic has changed due to the construction of MyCiTi dedicated bus lanes – such as those close to the new bus station along Thibault Square, on Hans Strijdom Avenue.
The aim is to prevent motorists turning across a dedicated MyCiTi bus lane to ensure the safety of the public using the MyCiTi buses and private car users.
“In essence, right turns are now not possible from Hans Strijdom Avenue into Long and Loop Streets,” says Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater, Councillor Brett Herron. “Law enforcement teams will issue tickets to motorists who disobey the new arrangements.”
Motorists travelling along Hans Strijdom, in the direction of the Waterfront, are no longer permitted to turn right into Loop Street, or at Bree Street.Motorists travelling along Hans Strijdom, in the direction of Adderley Street, will not be able to turn right into Long Street. They should continue along Hans Strijdom towards the traffic circle on Adderley, and travel around the circle until they join Hans Strijdom again, and then turn left into Long Street.
Normal traffic flow along Long Street, across the intersection with Hans Strijdom, will still be possible.
To facilitate the flow of traffic it has been necessary to create no-stopping areas along Hans Strijdom Avenue and no vehicles are permitted to stop in these zones.
