Myertal Turns 10

3 September 2019 by Alan

MyPR: Myertal Turns 10:

When Security meets AI, something magical happens: crime is stopped and lives are saved.

Myertal have pioneered this AI CCTV technology in South Africa for a decade. They are here not only to stay, but to disrupt the way in which South African security companies work.
Myertal is comprised of two divisions, the AI CCTV division, and the elite tactical division. They are a force to be reckoned with.

When looking at Nicole Kuper’s (Head of Special Operations) vision for Myertal, the sky truly is the limit. “I wish to continue to upskill my team, ensuring our Special Operations becomes a household name”, she boasted.

The AI CCTV system boasts a “learning” algorithm. This means that it learns what is normal, and when something out of the norm occurs (i.e. a burglary) it flags the control room and response is dispatched. So, instead of a guard on duty notifying the control room, the camera and tech (along with Myertal’s support) do it.

This means that companies can save costs through Guard reduction, increases cashflow.

Moreover, the Myertal camera is not susceptible to the human element. It cannot be bribed, bought, intimidated or held up. And if it is tampered with or electricity is cut, this flags as an irregular activity and notifies the control room accordingly.

Through this type of technology large firms have been able to save costs and ensure that their property and the individuals within are protected to the highest standard.

This is the year that Myertal turns 10, which has allowed for great reflection and consideration. When asked what Myertal means to him, Louis Friedman, Operations Manager of Myertal answered, “In essence, Myertal believes that security is a basic human right and not a privilege, we will continue to disrupt the norms of security to reach this goal”

So what has changed in the last ten years in the security industry? For starters there are a lot more security companies. However, such a change in the industry is not a threat to Myertal, as they are able to work hand-in-hand with security companies and empower their clients through the Myertal software.

“It’s incredible to be a part of a company that has far out-performed other security companies in 1) a saturated and highly competitive market and 2) in an extremely tough economy to trade in, Sales Manager, Rael Jaffe.

And of course there is the ongoing debate around whether crime has actually increase, or if we (as the public) are simply more aware. The point however, is that in the South African climate, crime is rife.

When looking to the future, Jaco Lotter, Myertal’s Control Room Manager, his hope for the company is to not only be a big force in the Industry, but to become an industry standard.

Myertal is able to provide quality security solutions, truly disrupting the market in a way that actually benefits the end-user.
