Mykonos: Man deceased onboard a motor vessel

3 May 2024 by Alan

Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos station commander, said: At 00h06, Wednesday, 1 May, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated following a request to respond to medically evacuate a Chinese crewman to hospital from a cargo motor vessel that was passing by Saldanha Bay at the time.

The NSRI Mykonos rescue craft Spirit of Vodacom was launched, accompanied by rescue paramedics from West Coast Medical Rescue.

We rendezvoused with the vessel off-shore of Saldanha Bay where sadly the 32 year old Chinese crewman was declared deceased – believed to be from natural medical causes.

Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.

The SA Police Services, Police Sea Borderline Control, WC Government Health EMS, Port Health authorities, TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority), West Coast Medical Rescue duty controllers, Telkom Maritime Radio Services, NSRI Mykonos duty controllers and NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) assisted MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) in the logistics and coordination of the operation.
