The F W de Klerk Foundation is delighted to announce that it has appointed Advocate Johan Kruger to succeed Adv Nikki de Havilland as the Director of the Centre for Constitutional Rights with effect from 1 April 2012.
Adv Kruger matriculated from the Potchefstroom Gymnasium in 1994 and studied law at North-West University between 1995 and 2002. He was awarded his LL.B degree in 2000 and his LL.M (Public Law) Cum Laude in 2002. His LL.M studies included Constitutional Law. He was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa in March, 2001.
Adv Kruger acted as a Public Prosecutor in 2002 before being appointed Military Defence Counsel and Operational Legal Support at the Military Legal Service Division at Defence Headquarters in Pretoria. He served in this capacity until July 2005 when he was appointed as Cabinet Liaison Officer to the Minister of Defence. In March 2007 he left the SANDF to assume a position as Head of Productions of a private company, Creativentertainment. In December 2008 he joined the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime where he has until now been acting a Project Co-ordinator and Legal Adviser for Southern Africa.
Adv Kruger is a member of the Council of North-West University. He is a Trustee of the Board of the South African Arts and Culture Trust and is a non-Executive Director of the Board of the Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging Group of Companies.
Adv Kruger is passionately committed to the South African Constitution and looks forward with to continuing the work of his predecessors at the CFCR, Adv Paul Hoffman SC and Adv Nikki de Havilland, in upholding the rights and values in the Constitution at this critical juncture in the history of our young democracy.
