Players showed character – Stekelenburg

16 February 2012 by Alan

Maarten Stekelenburg believes that his players has the character to challenge for silverware after the Urban Warriors came from 2 goals down to beat Platinum Stars 3-2 with all 3 Ajax goals scored in the last seven minutes of the game.

He said, Tonight we showed strength of character that surprised many. We were 2-0 down for most of the game, a man short and even when Manyama scored the penalty we all thought this game lost.

They dug deep and after Booth equalized there was a sense that we could still snatch a victory and we did.

We play a different game compared to that of last season, there are no wholesale changes, and we just tweaked the system here and there to get the best out of our current squad of players.

As I said before the game, we have a settled squad and that will work to our advantage.
