The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, accompanied by senior officials from the Public Transport Implementation and Partnerships Department, recently conducted a site visit to the Usasaza and Dunoon MyCiTi stations, where reconstruction is currently under way. Progress on both stations is advancing steadily, with completion targeted for 30 April 2026, subject to the finalisation of Eskom power supply installations.
‘The City is making solid progress in rebuilding these key public transport infrastructure sites in Dunoon and Usasaza. They were damaged and vandalised in 2018. The Dunoon station is now about 80% complete, while Usasaza is at 75%. Both stations are on track for completion by the end of April this year,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Once complete, these stations will help reconnect communities to opportunities and provide safe, efficient and affordable transport options.
‘I am also extremely pleased to see new tactile paving and Universal Access infrastructure being implemented at these stations, making them more accessible for all users. This project is about restoring dignity and ensuring that residents once again have access to safe, reliable public transport. The City remains committed to delivering infrastructure that keeps Cape Town moving,’ concluded Councillor Quintas during the site visit.
The last Station, named Freedom Station, in Joe Slovo is also scheduled for completion this year, by July 2026 subject to finalisation of the Eskom Power supply installation as well.
