Every year, young boys in South Africa go to the “bush” for a traditional ceremony to become men. But this journey, meant to be special, is often very dangerous. Boys face bad infections, can get very sick from not drinking water, and sometimes get hurt badly by people who don’t know what they’re doing. Sadly, these dangers can lead to serious health problems, lasting injuries, or even death, turning a comingofage ritual into a heartbreaking tragedy.
