Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi is saddened by the tragic murder of community activist Loyiso Nkohla on Monday in Phillippi, while engaging a group of people who had been living on Cape Town’s central railway line.
Over the past few months, the Departments of Human Settlements and Transport have been working on a plan to relocate people from Siyahlala Informal Settlements to enable PRASA to resume rail services which took place early this month. Accordingly, the Department of Human of Human Settlements has recently allocated R111 million to address PRASA railway line relocations and the 16 Informal Settlements without basic services.
Minister Kubayi calls on the affected communities to work with all spheres of government and other stakeholders to find a permanent solution.
Minister Kubayi expresses her sincere sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues following Monday’s shooting incident which ended Mr Nkohla’s life and left three other people injured.
“Mr Nkohla will be remembered for his activism as a representative for disadvantaged communities. We send our heartfelt condolences to his loved ones for his untimely passing and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow,” said Minister Kubayi.
The Minister also urges members of the public who might have information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact law enforcement agencies.
