A MyCapeTown selected video about Robben Island:

After arriving in Cape Town I headed out to the famous Robben Island. For those of you who don’t know, during the days of apartheid in South Africa, Robben Island was used to house black political prisoners such as the Nelson Mandela.
Now, after spending so much time away from the tourism side of Africa, it was almost a bit shocking for me to tour Robben Island, of course due to the power of the situation there, but also because of the hoards of tourists. It was the first time in 18 months I really felt like I was being shuffled around.
However, listening to the story of one of the former prisoners was such a powerful experience. Hearing the stories directly from someone who suffered through life on Robben Island really was something really humbling.
In my next video I continue to explore the Cape Town, South Africa area. Stay tuned.
