Davide del Fante, NSRI Table Bay duty coxswain, said: At 15h21, Monday, 6 April, NSRI Table Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from a local 35 foot sailing yacht reporting to NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) that they were experiencing motor mechanical failure, 1 nautical mile South of Robben Island, and requesting a tow to get to their berth at RCYC (Royal Cape Yacht Club).
They were in no imminent danger and NSRI requested that they continue sailing towards the Port of Table Bay pending NSRI’s arrival.
Our duty crew responded to our NSRI Table Bay station 3 rescue base where we launched the NSRI rescue craft DHL Deliverer and rendezvoused with them in Table Bay.
A towline was established and we towed them to Ben Schoeman Dock where we rafted alongside the casualty yacht and brought her safely to her berth without incident and they required no further assistance.
The operation completed at 19h10.
