An extensive search for a man who reportedly went missing in the surf while swimming has revealed no sign of the man.
Vaughn Seconds, NSRI Strandfontein station commander, said: At 13h57, Sunday, 11 October, NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated following reports from City of Cape Town (CoCT) Law Enforcement officers of a drowning in progress at Mnandi Beach.
CoCT Law Enforcement officers were in attendance on the scene and a CoCT Law Enforcement Marine Unit, 2 NSRI Strandfontein sea rescue craft and our NSRI sea rescue vehicle, CoCT Fire and Rescue Services and their Fire Dive Unit, the SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS, WSAR (Wilderness Search and Rescue), a Police Dive Unit and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter responded.
An adult male, believed to be from Khayelitsha, reportedly went missing about 50 meters off-shore in the surf line while swimming.
Despite an extensive air, sea and shoreline search no sign of the missing man has been found.
Attempts to locate the family of the missing man are continuing.
A Police Dive Unit are due to follow up on Monday and an ongoing search operation and investigations will continue.
