A settled squad is the key to Ajax Cape Town kicking off with a positive start of the second half of the PSL season on Wednesday evening, said Maarten Stekelenburg the Ajax coach at a press conference held at the Cape Town Stadium on Monday morning.
He continued saying, “The Ajax Cape Town system ensures that we always able promote youngsters for the Ajax Youth Academy and this time we promoted three players who were schooled in the Ajax system.
At this moment we have a squad of 25 players of whom 12 players came through the Ajax youth ranks, while numbers of the remaining players have been at Ikamva for a while now.
During the midseason break we promoted Toriq Losper, Kyle Peters and re-signed Clint Julius all products of the Ajax Youth Academy.
They know the system, the intensity of the training sessions and how we play our football, all this is advantageous when they live the Ajax dream and sign for the PSL team.
As I said before, we have a well balanced squad and the key to a good start is that our players know each other very well and that there is a certain familiarity of each other’s game.
We are aiming for maximum points from the opening games of the second half of the season in order to give us a platform to launch our challenge for a top three finish.
We play Platinum Stars on Wednesday and a home ground advantage boosts our quest for three points from this game.”
