Shout! The Mod Musical comes to Grandwest

22 October 2016 by Alan

MyPR: Shout! The Mod Musical comes to Grandwest:

For an evening of superb musical entertainment and feel-good 1960s nostalgia, you need look no further than the Roxy Revue Bar, GrandWest. Taking to the stage in November is Shout! The Mod Musical, a vibrant and inspiring celebration of womanhood and the musical hits of the 1960s. From miniskirts and go-go boots to lonely hearts and complicated relationships, this show is pure entertainment that will leave you shouting for more!

Originally created for Off-Broadway by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, Shout! is a high energy swing through the music, style and vibe of London in the 1960s. Five very different girls, identified only by the colour of their clothing, rely on the trendy magazine SHOUT! for the latest in music and fashion trends. And, of course, the rather dubious relationship advice offered by the magazine’s agony aunt, Gwendolyn Holmes. Through a decade of emotional highs and lows – and great music – the five girls each experience a rite of passage to discover their true selves.

This hilarious, foot-tapping musical journey weaves the changing attitudes of the time with well-loved and nostalgic hits by such greats as Shirley Bassey, Petula Clark, Cilla Black, Lulu, and Dusty Springfield. You’ll sway and clap along as hit follows hit, including Downtown, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, Son of a Preacher Man, Goldfinger, Don’t Sleep in the Subway and many more.

The exceptional all-female cast includes the performing talents of Laura Bosman, Melissa Sanderson, Christine Thonissen, Enyha Swanepoel and Megan Spencer. Garth Tavares provides Direction, Musical Direction and Choreography. Tavares previously directed Shout! in 2012, which was sold-out and won awards for Best Musical, Best Director of a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical which was shared by all five performers.

Relive the music, dancing and dynamic energy of a time when you actually had to have talent to become famous. Shout! The Mod Musical can be seen at the Roxy Revue Bar, GrandWest, from 4 to 26 November. Performances are on Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm, and Sundays at 5 pm. Tickets are R120 each and can be booked at Computicket. Age recommendation is 13 years and older.
