Stekelenburg – We must bury our chances

26 February 2012 by Alan

Maarten Stekelenburg the Ajax coach was upbeat about his team’s performance despite a 1-1 draw against his cross-town rivals at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.

Stekelenburg said, “Both teams played a very good game this evening. I expected another late show from my team but it did not end that way.

We controlled the game from the start and should have taken advantage of the scoring chances presented to us. We created a number of chances but could not bury them.

We knew that they would come at us after the break and they changed a few things in their game plan. We hoped to grab all three points to keep pace with the pacesetters.

I must say again that we have a squad of quality players and they are improving with every game. We will now focus on our opening Nedbank Cup game against Amazulu before we return to League action against Kaizer Chiefs in March.”
