Supporting 16 Days of Activism

5 December 2011 by Alan

The 16 Days of Activism Campaign takes place every year from 25 November to 10 December to make the public aware of the negative impact of violence on women and children and to act against abuse. To show your support you can wear a white ribbon during this period, remembering that the ribbon symbolises peace.

The GP/OKCID supports the campaign whole-heartedly and has taken the initiative to sponsor t-shirts to SAPS Cape Town for those that participated in the Torch Run that took place on Friday, November 25 at Cape Town Railway Station. Corporate Communication for Cape Town Central SAPS, Captain Ezra October says, “The Torch Run is a SAPS campaign to increase awareness of the services the SAPS has in place to tackle violence against women and child abuse.  We integrate it with the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to encourage all communities to work together to eradicate all forms of abuse”. The Torch Run was the pre-launch of the 16 Days of Activism, which started on 15 November and made its way throughout the Western Cape.

16 Days of Activism
The Cape Town Railway Station was one of the Torch Run stops which ended in Philippi, Cape Town. We ask the community to watch out for SAPS community initiatives during the 16 Days of Activism campaign al to fully support our SAPS.
